They can be used to restore or replace compromised or totally absent elements within the arch.
We define a denture as fixed when it rests on natural teeth or implants (such as crowns and bridges), while we speak of removable dentures when we refer to those that can be removed directly by the patient (traditional dentures are an example).
Fixed dentures, therefore, cannot be removed by the patient because they are cemented to natural teeth or artificial roots. Only a professional dentist can proceed with such removal or replacement operations. Be that as it may, it is possible to distinguish between different types of fixed dentures:
- prostheses anchored on dental implants
- individual dental capsules
- dental bridge
Dental implants (implantoprosthetics)
By the term implant prosthetics we refer to the branch of dentistry that aims to replace dental elements by inserting artificial roots into the jaw, namely implants.
The implant is placed in the maxillary or mandibular bone to replace missing teeth (which have fallen out as a result of trauma or particular disease).
Prosthetic artifacts, made of a different material than the implants, are placed over the implant: the goal is to simulate, in shape and color, a natural tooth.
In this way, the patient gets a verisimilitude and aesthetically pleasing smile that can restore the confidence that is often lacking when one does not have beautiful teeth.
Implant prosthetics is therefore a very valid solution (as well as a widely used and established practice) to problems such as missing some or all dental elements.
At our practice we implement different types of implant-prosthetic surgeries, chosen by our specialists based on the patient's specific case. Years of experience in the field and the choice of the latest and most innovative technologies allow us to offer each client the best possible solution, and always at affordable prices.
Two different implantology techniques
Fixed prostheses, in the field of implantology, include:
- The All on Four implant: it is so called because, unlike other implants, it allows the construction of a fixed prosthesis on the arch by the insertion of four metal posts. The pins of the All on Four are placed at 45 degrees, so as to facilitate the creation of the structure even in the most complicated cases (especially in patients who do not have a rich bone structure and in whom the insertion of differently placed pins is therefore complicated). The dentist inserts a provisional prosthesis first, and then proceeds with replacement only once osseo-integration is complete
- The All on Six implant, on the other hand, instead of taking advantage of only four posts, uses six posts. This kind of surgery can be categorized as minimally invasive and is a definitive solution to the lack of one or more dental elements in the arch. The procedure can be performed on any type of patient, always after careful evaluation by the dentist.
Which teeth can be replaced?
Technologies in the field of DENTY today allow the replacement of any dental element: incisors, molars, a single tooth or all the dental elements of the arch. Within the Savasta practice you can regain your smile no matter what the problem is.
Is implant surgery risky?
Implant surgery is not risky if it is performed by professionals and according to appropriate safety procedures.
We professionals at the Savasta practice take care of implementing the surgery by following all necessary precautions. First of all, it is necessary to obtain approval from the doctor, who relies on the patient's clinical situation to make the decision.
The surgery is then clearly done under anesthesia. The use of biocompatible materials is then another guarantee of safety, as these are unlikely to generate rejection.
However, if complications should occur after surgery, our doctors would know perfectly well how to intervene; in fact, in case of failure to integrate, it is possible to remove and replace the implant.
Single dental capsules
The term dental capsule is used to refer to an artificial dental crown, inserted inside the patient's arch.
Thus, it is a dental element with a metal core, but which externally reproduces the appearance of a normal tooth (made of special materials and covered with a shiny layer of resin or ceramic). The purpose of the capsule is to cover a damaged tooth and strengthen it. A capsule is used when:
- The tooth is too damaged to be normally filled
- The tooth has been devitalized and needs a new artificial crown TO PREVENT ITS FRACTURE
- The tooth is chipped or injured and its aesthetics need to be improved
- Tooth enamel is severely damaged
- The tooth is compromised due to pulp infection
The dental bridge
To replace a tooth with a dental crown, the dentist resorts to the use of a bridge. The bridge takes advantage of the two teeth next to the one of interest as supports and uses them as abutments: it restricts their approach so that space can be created for the anchors, which in turn are sealed to the capsule, to rest and cement over them.
The pros and cons of dental bridge
The main advantage of the bridge over other systems is that it does not involve surgery, which can sometimes be crucial for the patient.
With the bridge, it is then possible to have new teeth in a short time, as well as to resume with normal food chewing activities about 4-6 weeks after the work has begun.
Thus, these are the various types of fixed dentures that can be used.
