Both from a physical point of view, since this allows for regular mouth function and normal chewing of food, and from a psychological point of view, because a beautiful smile gives more confidence and does not lead to dissatisfaction in the patient from an aesthetic point of view.
In cases of missing teeth, which can be due to a variety of reasons (such as agenesis or tooth decay-related fall), one of the best solutions is implantology.
Implantology is a safe and permanent solution; it allows the patient's problem to be eliminated and is a viable alternative to removable dentures (such as classic dentures), which are often considered uncomfortable or unsightly, especially by younger patients.
This technique involves the insertion, within the patient's jawbone, of permanent structures (of posts, OR BETTER TO SAY IMPLANTS), to which ARTIFICIAL dental elements will then be attached.
The goal of specialists is always to achieve a result that is as natural as possible, so that the difference between the applied implant and a natural set of teeth is not noticeable.
Specifically, computer guided implantology (computer assisted implantology) is a dental technique that allows for detailed planning of implant placement in the patient's mouth using highly sophisticated, computerized systems.
With this method, the surgery can moreover take place without the use of a scalpel, in greater respect for the tissues and reducing the operation time.
At the Savasta practice you will find a highly trained medical staff that specializes in this type of procedure, constantly keeping up to date on what are the latest technologies applicable in the dental field.
Our doctors are always available to assist you and advise you on the best way to proceed, especially in the field ofcomputer-guided implantology.
How is computer-guided implant surgery performed?
Computer-guided implantology uses image processing of the jaw bones, obtained by computed tomography, which is a simple radiodiagnostic investigation technique.
Subsequently acquired images allow a virtual design of the implant in terms of the type, number, and location of the pins, so as to best respect the anatomy and nerve structures present within the patient's jawbone.
In order to undergo such a procedure, therefore, the patient must first undergo a 3D CT scan(WHICH THEY CAN COMFORTABLY PERFORM AT OUR STUDIO), thanks to which our specialists at the Savasta studio will be able to design the three-dimensional model of the affected arches.
The next step is the reprocessing of the data obtained from the CT scan using special software. These programs send the results to the centers in charge of creating the resin templates (also known as the surgical template).
Once the dentist receives the template in question, he or she will use it to guide the placement of the implants. Virtual surgical planning thus represents a state-of-the-art guide that allows the surgeon to proceed as best as possible, reducing the invasiveness of the procedure.
What are the advantages of computer guided implantology?
The advantages of implantology are numerous: given the insertion of a fixed structure, first of all, we can say that it allows the problem of missing one or more dental elements to be solved permanently.
Thus, the patient can avoid resorting to the more popular removable dentures, which bring with them numerous inconveniences, such as poor stability of the teeth in the mouth or the problem of having to remove the denture wheneveroral hygiene is needed.
Implantology then allows for the elimination of that discomfort related to purely aesthetic aspects, given the general consideration towards these devices.
Implantology is then very accessible, both in terms of cost and in reference to the number of patients on whom it can be applied. Indeed, it has no contraindications related to the age of the patient, so anyone, after careful evaluation and medical decision, can have access to the operation.
This is also accessible to all those patients who do not have a large amount of jaw bone, a characteristic that sometimes precludes them from other types of surgery, for this reason more exclusive.
In fact, computer-guided implantology provides the means to intervene even on subjects with significant bone reduction at load, without the burden of bone grafting.
Another of the advantages is that it is a quick and totally painless operation, since it is performed under local anesthesia. Within 24 hours of the operation, it is already possible to have a full set of teeth, as well as a remarkably rapid postoperative recovery.
Above all, however, the real benefit of this technique lies in the possibility for the dental practitioner to have a prior overview, thanks to which he or she can move more confidently and easily in the course of the procedure.
Is computer-guided implant surgery painful? How long will it take to recover after the operation?
As already mentioned, the surgery is performed under local anesthesia, which clearly guarantees total numbness of the part affected by the operation.
As far as postoperative recovery is concerned, each patient is a case by case, because everyone reacts differently and based on their specific surgery. Nevertheless, we have seen a very fast recovery in the vast majority of cases we have treated.
