In particular, when all of the teeth of the upper arch are missing, it is possible that the patient has much resorbed bone, and in these cases a zygomatic implant surgery allows the anchors that are needed to place the implant to be implanted.
When bone resorption is complete, given the delicacy of the procedure, it is possible that there are patients who are ineligible for this type of implantology, in fact, research has not stopped and all researchers in the field are collaborating for new and continuous improvements.
Despite this, these are very rare cases, andzygomatic implantology is emerging as a new frontier in dentistry.
At the Savasta&Partners practice, we boast a deep knowledge of the entire field regarding implantology so that we can offer our patients a unique experience.
How does zygomatic implantology work?
Zygomatic implantology is configured as a backup therapy, meaning that other less invasive therapies are evaluated first, and only then will this type of surgery be recommended to the patient.
In Savasta&Partners practice we recommend bone grafting only when even zygomatic implantation is not feasible, as it is a rather long and complex therapy and in our practice it is considered only as a last resort given the availability of the most modern operative techniques.
With this special technique, dental implants are grafted directly into the cheekbone, allowing it to regain perfect teeth within 24 hours.
It has to be said that the screws required for the operation are quite long, and given the particular anchorage site, close to the eyes, this could be frightening for the patient.
Actually this is not the case, the after-effects of surgery are really minimal; of course like any surgery it is not without any risk, but in our practice the patient will be able to count on our professionalism and ability to cope with emergencies.
This is also why, before proceeding to this but also any other type of therapy, we carefully evaluate the patient's clinical picture, which in this case will correspond to the patient presenting total resorption of the upper jaw bone.
It is also important to point out that we do not recommend unnecessary or unnecessarily wasteful therapies in the study, which is why any other viable avenues will be screened first.
Individuals eligible for zygomatic implants are also very likely to be denture wearers, as prolonged use of removable dentures inevitably leads to bone atrophy.
Other individuals who might be amenable to intervention are those with severe periodontal disease ( so-called pyorrhea )with significant bone deficiency, or with trauma bone deficiency.
The dental specialists in our practice use computer-guided technology in their work, which allows them to perform full-size simulations.
How is it performed?
First, the mouth is scanned with the intraoral scanner and CT scan, then the results entered into our advanced software where, thanks to the simulations offered by the technology, the right personalized solution is chosen for the patient based on the possibilities offered by the residual bone.
Importantly, the patient is also always informed of all choices made through computer simulations, making it easy and affordable for everyone to understand.
Zygomatic implant surgery generally requires general anesthesia, and involves grafting between two and four titanium screws onto the jawbone, the length of which varies between two and five cm.
In the same session, the prosthesis will then be grafted, which will restore the patient's smile, which is why we also talk about immediate loading implantology.
In the following days, normal therapy with anti-inflammatories is sufficient, and recovery is very fast. The patient will be advised to stick to a "soft" diet in the following months, avoiding the frontal bite with resistant foods, but otherwise can lead a normal life.
What is additional and not insignificant, restoring dentition and correct jaw positioning in patients who were without it not only restores a smile but also restores harmony and proportion to the entire face, with significant benefits for aesthetics and self-confidence.
Age is not important, what matters is taking care of oneself and loving oneself.Often patients who require this type of surgery are advanced in age and simply accept their situation, spending their years with incomplete teeth or troublesome dentures.
This is probably an intervention that given its importance is sometimes either overlooked or considered excessive, but it should also be kept in mind that the return in terms of improved quality of life for the patient is invaluable.
Success rates
Furthermore, it is reported that in addition to thehigh success rate, the occurrence of complications is also very low, and in any case, predictable enough such that they are properly treated. It is estimated that a decade after zygomatic implant surgery, there is still a 98% success rate.
All of the specialists in the Savasta&Partners practice care especially about education, and have always been oriented toward patient safety and well-being. In addition, the administrative staff of the practice is always available to answer any questions you may have.
